Remarks: SAC’s 31st Strategic Fighter Wing was transferred to TAC with its F-84Fs in 1957, and soon the conversion to F-100s began. In 1959 the wing and its squadrons were transferred on paper to George AFB and absorbed the assets of the 413th TFW there. In 1962 the wing moved yet again, going to Homestead AFB with its aircraft and personnel. 1965 saw the 307th TFS deploy to Bien Hoa AB, South Vietnam, for a 6 month combat tour. They were replaced in December by the 308th TFS. In December 1966 the entire wing, less the 307th TFS, was transferred to the newly constructed Tuy Hoa AB. The 307th was sent to Torrejon AB, Spain. In 1968, two ANG F-100C units activated during the Pueblo Crisis, the 136th TFS and 188th TFS, joined the wing, departing in 1969. In 1969, the wing was also assigned the 355th TFS, the 416th TFS, and the 416th TFS Detachment 1 (Misty FACs). The 31st TFW flew combat sorties from Tuy Hoa until 1970. It was then transferred on paper back to Homestead and its F-100s sent to various ANG units.
